Jungkunst is an annual art event with over 10’000 visitors, held at the former industrial halls of Sulzer in Winterthur, Switzerland. The exhibition is organised by a non-profit association to support young Swiss artists. All volunteers aiming to promote culture, work for free. The art exhibit is a platform for young artists waiting to be discovered. Every year 25 to 30 of the most promising artists of the contemporary Swiss art scene show their work. From sculptors to street art, this four-day event covers a wide range of artistic expression. Jungkunst offers a relaxed atmosphere, with a shop, bar, lounge, poetry slam and live concerts.
I’ve started helping out at the Jungkunst exhibit in 2013 as a regular volunteer. Over the years, I’ve worked myself up and had become a member of the board. I took over the position of the creative lead and art direction of the association. I was in charge of all visual, corporate and marketing materials related to the art exhibition. I was responsible for the annual advertising campaign, online presence of the event, social media content, editorial design and print materials such as the art catalogue, flyers, poster etc. I was also tasked to create various merchandising products for example volunteer-shirts, beer mats … As part of the organising and creative committee I was also responsible for the exhibitions signalisation, interior and mural design. During the event itself, I helped with the communication and coordination of the more than 200 volunteers. Strichpunkt, the design agency I was working for is a big sponsor of Jungkunst. Therefore, I was able to design most of the marketing materials whilst working for the agency.
